75 Years Ago - Eileen's Diary - April 19, 1937

 75 Years Ago - Eileen's Diary - April 19, 1937

This entry is the daily post on this blog from the diary of eighteen year old Eileen KINNICK, 75 Years Ago this date.

Since midway through 2010, a weekly update/comments blog entry began to appear on the Dr. Bill Tells Ancestor Stories blog. Those weekly entries, on that blog, on each Tuesday of the week, will continue, with links to these daily entries.

Here is the short entry for Monday, April 19:

Keen day. Marion and Paul here all pm. Went walking down Main Street. Seems like years since we lived there. Ate, did dishes, & went to sleep on studio couch. Up stairs to bed. [added later: Marian Grohe went with Paul Williamson.]

Here is the long entry for Monday, April 19:

Another keen day. This surely can't last. Straightened up the house before coming to work. Ordered dress & blouse from Des Moines.  No Bayard mail 'till 2nd one. Wrote back right away. Marian, Paul & Jean K. here all pm. Walked down Main Streeet, looked over all of the old places. Seems like years since we lived down there. Dad & I at Gamble's & then home. Ate, did dishes & went to sleep on studio couch. Up stairs to bed.

My comments:
They moved from the house on Main Street out to the farm in about June 1936 - only nine or ten months earlier… Seemed a long time, to her. She is eighteen. Don't have a photo of the house on Main Street, that I know of. Too bad.

The Studio Couch made into a bed. Here is an ad from 1937.
