75 Years Ago - Eileen's Diary - August 9, 1937

 75 Years Ago - Eileen's Diary - August 9, 1937

This entry is the daily post on this blog from the diary of eighteen year old Eileen KINNICK, 75 Years Ago this date.

Since midway through 2010, a weekly update/comments blog entry began to appear on the Dr. Bill Tells Ancestor Stories blog. Those weekly entries, on that blog, on each Tuesday of the week, will continue, with links to these daily entries.

 [August 1, 1937, at Ledges]

Here is the short entry for Monday, August 9:
Pete's birthday. Leo introducing Grant as my brother-in-law. Verna's last day at work. To bed early.

Here is the long entry for Monday, August 9:

[Highlighted:] Happy Birthday, Pete.

Leo Watrous introduced Grant Ballard to Charles as my brother-in-law. Was I embarrassed!
Lot in paying their bills. Verna's last day at work. Got groceries at Frohlichs. Ate, did dishes, & took a shower. Looked at Catalogs. To bed early.

My comments: Grant Ballard would become her half-brother-in-law when she and Pete were married, of course. Grant was Pete's mother's son from her first marriage. Grant was born 2 Feb 1900, so he was already 37 at this time. Grant's father had died 30 Dec 1900 in an accident. Ella married Bill Smith in 1904.

This is Grant, from Irene's scrapbook [Thanks, again, Becki!]

  2. Interesting noting that they did not seem to celebrate birthdays as we do today with gathering of family.
