Here is the daily entry for Friday, June 30:

Did up usual work. Took Pete over on 80 to finish plowing beans. Home & washed and set my hair, did dishes and separator, read awhile, got dinner. Had fruit salad from ice box. Got ready to come to Dr. in pm. He was at the hospital when we got there so we rode around, watched them play tennis. When we did see Dr. he said I'd better go up on the hill so we went to Penny's & got a night gown and came down here.
Pete went home & chores & came back here until 9:00. He stayed at Clayburg's all nite. I didn't hardly sleep all nite. Felt good but was so restless.

My comments:

An unusual day, for sure… only just beginning… Note that she is writing in the hospital.

Certainly an interesting entry! ;-)

Here is the daily entry for Thursday, June 29:

Up in pretty good time. Took Pete over to plow beans & then went in town & got Buss & Mom. Did usual work. Slept an hour in pm & then went down in garden awhile. Over after Pete. Pop stopped awhile over on 80. Home & chores & ate supper. Doing dishes when Polly, Irene, Betty came with papers for me to sign. Bathed shaved after folks left & went to bed.

My comments:

Have to wonder what the papers were…

Cake left over from the day before, YUM!

Did usual work. Dad bro't Mom & Buss out in morning. I made a white coconut layer cake. Had beefsteak for dinner. Pete finished laying corn by. Mom & Buss & I worked in garden in pm. Really looks keen. Over after Pete. Home, chores, made ice cream. Ate, listened to Joe Louis T.K.O. Galento. Did dishes, folks left, took baths & went to bed.

My comments:

Always interesting to see when she/they listened to the radio!

June 28- Joe Louis recovers from a third round knockdown and retains his world Heavyweight title, knocking out Tony Galento in round four, at New York.

Here is the daily entry for Tuesday, June 27:

Quite hot all day. Pete laying by corn on 80. I went in town at 10:00 and did my ironing. Bussy home to dinner with me. Dad bro't Mom out after dinner. Did up usual work. Read awhile & embroidered. Had fried chicken for supper. Chored early & worked in the garden awhile. Folks left at 8:30. Pete & I sat on the back porch a little while, then bathed & shaved and went to bed.

My comments:

Don't think she was very comfortable. Very hot. If only she knew, just a few more days…  ;-)

More new fried chicken for all...

Here is the daily entry for Monday, June 26:

Birthday note: Mom (she thought it was her 51st; turned out, it was her 52nd)

Pete laying by North field. Did usual work & then canned 4 quarts of cherry sauce. Ate & went in town. Pete got soybean money. I stayed up home while he shopped. Home at 2:00. Pete to the field. I canned 4 more quarts of cherries. Cleanup up the kitchen. Chored, ate at 8:00. I heard "Mrs. Moonlight," (who didn't want to grow old) on the Lux Theater. Real good. Janet Gaynor. Pete read paper. Bathed and went to bed.

My comments:

Lots of good cherries preserved for later use!

[Note: Grandma Kinnick, perhaps when applying for Social Security, in the 50s or 60s, discovered her birth certificate information clearly said born in 1887, when she always said/believed it was 1888, in Denmark.]

Here is the daily entry for Sunday, June 25:

 Pete didn't get up until 7:30. I dressed our first spring chicken while he chores. He worked in garden awhile before dinner. Had keen dinner. Both of us out in garden until 3:30. Up hime & Pete picked a pail of cherries. I watched Irene make a dress for Betty. Home at 6:00. Chored. Folks came out after the washing. They left early. Sat on back porch awhile & then went to bed. Really nice out.

My comments:

There is another of those phrases: "…dressed…chicken…" Know what she means, but not normal meaning of the words! Ain't English great!! ;-)

Here is the daily entry for Saturday, June 24:

 A nice day. Pete started to lay north field of corn by. Did usual work. Made a chocolate cake. Had peas & carrots from the garden for dinner. Cleaned whole house. Scrubbed & waxed kitchen floor. Chored early. Ate, took baths, shaved, went to town. Parked in middle in front of Textor's. Had lots to talk to. Pete got the groceries. Home at 12:10.

My comments:

Any comments on the phrase "to lay north field of corn by?" I always thought this was a strange combination of words - out on the farm!

"Parked in middle in front of Textor's. Had lots to talk to."... brings back very specific memories!! ;-)

I chose to feature the fresh peas and carrots from the garden.Yum, fresh vegetables!! ;-)
