75 Years Ago Today - Eileen's Diary - May 20, 1939

This entry is a post from the diary of my mother, twenty year old Eileen KINNICK, 75 Years Ago this date. She kept a diary from 1932 as a freshman in high school until she left us, too early, in 1999.


Here is the daily entry for Saturday, May 20:

Got work done up early. In after Mom & Buss. Cleaned bedroom before dinner. Over after Pete. Ate dinner. Stayed over on 80 till nearly 2:00. Waited for horses to eat & drink. Read the paper over there. Home & finished cleaning rest of house. Picked a bouquet of yellow roses. Made ice cream. Folks here & Grant came. Talked till 10:30 & then Pete & I in town. Got a shirt for Pop. Home at 12:30. Really tired.

Here is the daily entry for Sunday, April 23:

Pete up at 6:30. Nice & warm out but windy. Did the chores. Pete shaved, Sunday Paper man here and we paid him for year's subscription. Got ready to go to church. 52 were there. Record attendance. Folks here when we got home. Ate dinner, did dishes, cleaned dining room. Pete fixing garden fence. Dad & Buss started painting the chicken house. One sow had 12 pigs. Another 11 but she laid on 2 of them. Ate late supper. Did dishes. Grant came. Folks left at 9:00. Grant stayed & talked until 12:00. He took the stool I made home with him to finish.

Here is a photo of Grant. This was probably a few years earlier, though I really don't know! ;-)
