Services held for Lyle Sievers

Funeral services for Lyle Sievers, 64, were held at 10:30 a.m. today (Thursday), March 10, 1988, as the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jerry Robertson officiating.

Lyle died at his home south of Coon Rapids on Monday, March 7 following a lengthy illness with cancer.

Pat Schwartz served as organist and accompanied Marcia Young in vocal selections.

Interment was in the Orange Township Cemetery south of Coon Rapids with military honors by Gurney Parker Post #357 of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5554.

Carrying the casket were Kenny Knudsen, Deah Herron, Ric Hilgenberg, Tom Sievers, Larry Hilgenberg and Robert Rattenborg. Serving as honorary casketbearers were Ron Herron, Richard Knudson, Joe Sievers, Tim HIlgenberg, Thomas Nelsen and Glen Knight.

A prayer service was held a 7 p.m. on Wednesday evening, March 9, at Olde Funeral Home in Coon Rapids.

LYLE HOWARD SIEVERS

Lyle was born March 7, 1924 in  Manning, Iowa, the son of Peter Herman and Mary Barnes Sievers. He and his family moved south of Coon Rapids in 1934. He attended school at Union Township and Bayard. Lyle served his country in the Navy during World War II. When he returned home, he worked at Kretzinger Implement in Coon Rapids as a farm machinery mechanic.

On July 21, 1949, he was united in marriage with Shirley Ann Herron at the Methodist Church in Des Moines. To this union three children were born: Robert Dean, Kathleen Ann and Donna Marie.

They live in Coon Rapids for a year and a half when they moved to a farm south of Coon Rapids until 1959 when they moved to their present home. Lyle's greatest pleasures in life were his family, grandchildren, farming and the outdoors.

Lyle was a member of the United Methodist Church in Coon Rapids.

Lyle was diagnosed with cancer in the latter part of January, 1987. He passed away at his home on March 7, 1988 at the age of 64 years.

He was preceded in death by his father in March of 1978.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Shirley of Coon Rapids; and the following children and grandchildren: Robert Sievers and his wife, Cindy and their children Stacey, Shane and Shayla of Granger, Iowa; Kathleen Hite and her husband, Terry, of Madrid, Iowa: and Donna Drees and her husband, Thomas and their daughter, Cassandra Marie of Carroll, Iowa; by his mother, Mary Esther, of the Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids; two sisters: Beatrice Knudsen of Bayard and Ila Knudsen and her husband, Nels, of Mesa, Arizona; one brother, Merlin and his wife, Claribel, of Coon Rapids; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Lyle and Shirley (Herron) Sievers were active members of the "Kinnick Cousins" - grandchildren of Alonzo and Nettie (Williams) Kinnick. Shirley was a daughter of Wilson and Lucile (Kinnick) Herron of the Coon Rapids, Iowa area.

Services for Emmert Nelsen

Funeral services for Emmert M. Nelsen were conducted by Pastors Harris Hostager and Joan Mau on September 24, 1987 at Out Saviour's Lutheran Church in Audubon.

Interment was in Orange Center Cemetery south of Coon Rapids. Casketbeareres were grandsons: Randy Nelsen, Todd Nelsen, Michael Nelsen, Carrell Nelsen II, Don Nelsen, Joel Rattenborg, Jay Myers, Nick Nelsen, Chad Nelsen, Joshua Nelsen, Scott Dermody, David Dermody and James Nelsen.

Emmert M. Nelsen

Emmert Martinus Nelsen, the son of Nels George and Vitta Pedersen Nelsen, was born July 25, 1914 in Audubon County near Ross, Iowa and died of respiratory failure on September 22, 1987 at Jenny Edmundson Memorial Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 73 years.

He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Coon Rapids, and educated in the Guthrie County schools.

On October 2, 1933 he married Margaret Herron of Coon Rapids and to this union eight children were born.

They farmed until 1960 when they moved into Audubon where he worked for Langs Home Furnishings. In March of 1963 they moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado to work for the S & M Egg Ranch.They returned to Audubon in 1965 and he worked for the City of Audubon until he retired in 1980.

He was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Audubon.

Preceding him in death were three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his parents; his stepmother, Elna; two brothers, Arnold and Hardvig Nelsen; and one sister, Norma Slater.

Survivors include his wife Margaret of Audubon; the following children: Arnold and wife Karen Nelsen of Jefferson, S.D., Darrell and wife Sue Nelsen of Audubon, Thomas and wife Betsy Nelsen of Hamlin, Marie and husband Bennie Myers of Treynor, Vitta and husband Bob Rattenborg of Audubon, Donald and wife Dorothy Nelsen of Avoca, Phyllis Dermondy of Johnston, and Frank and wife Ann Nelsen of Walnut; 24 grand-children; 18 great-grand-children; three sisters, Ramona and husband Wyman Jensen of Altoona, Gretchen and husband Mike De Carlo of Des Moines, and Joan and husband Roy Mortensen of Audubon; and two brothers, Elmer and wife Sharon Nelsen of Des Moines and Dale Nelsen of California; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ronald "Ron" Herron, Former Family Teacher and Staff Writer at Boys Town passed away on August 20, 2011.

[Ron was the son of Donald and Jennie (Betts) Herron and the grandson of Wilson and Lucile (KINNICK) Herron of Coon Rapids, Iowa area]

Survived by wife Annette (Savago) Herron; son Justin Herron; daughter Amy Herron; grandson Mason Fleming; 2 brothers.

Ron and his wife Annette were among the first family teachers at Boys Town and for many years he wrote both training and behavioral health books and manuals in support of the mission at Boys Town and for sale with the Boys Town Press.

After Boys Town, Ron and Annette managed Senior Care facilities.
SERVICES Saturday, August 27th, 4pm at the John A. Gentleman Pacific Street Chapel, 14151 Pacific Street, Omaha, NE.

Helen Lucile KINNICK (My maternal grandfather, Paul KINNICK's, sister) was born on 28 Mar 1894 in Iowa. She died on 13 Mar 1956.

Wilson Cleveland HERRON son of Thomas Lafayette HERRON and Keturia L. Elizabeth HEATER was born on 12 Dec 1890 in Iowa. He died in 1976 in Iowa.


Wilson Cleveland Herron and Helen Lucile Kinnick were married on 18 Sep 1912. They had the following children:

i. Margaret Elizabeth HERRON was born on 09 Jul 1914. She married Emmert Martinus NELSEN on 21 Oct 1933. She died on 29 Nov 1991.

ii. Wilbur Elias HERRON was born on 23 Jan 1916 south of Coon Rapids, in Guthrie Co, Iowa. He married Pauline Jeanette BOWER on 13 Apr 1941 in the Methodist Parsonage, Guthrie Center, Guthrie Co, Iowa. He died on 25 Feb 1999 in Iowa Meth Med Ce, Des Moines, Polk Co, Iowa.

iii. Donald Alonzo HERRON was born on 09 Sep 1917. He married Jennie Adelia BETTS on 25 Dec 1942. He died on 23 Apr 1997.

iv. Thomas Duane HERRON was born on 28 Nov 1919. He married Mildred Mae BETTS on 21 Oct 1940. He died on 08 Oct 1996 in Iowa Meth Med Center, Des Moines, Polk Co, Iowa.

v. Pauline Roberta HERRON was born on 28 Jul 1921 at home south of Coon Rapids, Iowa. She married Clayton Cleveland ROLLER on 30 Sep 1939. She died on 04 Dec 1994 in Thomas Rest Haven, Coon Rapids, Carroll Co, Iowa.

vi. Wilson Cleveland (Ping) HERRON Jr. was born on 10 Jul 1923 in Coon Rapids, Carroll Co, Iowa. He married Lucille Grace DILLIVAN on 28 Aug 1946 in Carroll, Carroll Co, Iowa. He died on 28 Mar 1992 in Des Moines, Polk Co, Iowa.

vii. Naomi Lucile HERRON was born on 26 Nov 1925. She married Robert Earl KEPPLE on 11 Aug 1945 in Carroll, Carroll Co, Iowa.

viii. Violet Geneva HERRON was born on 28 Apr 1927 on the family farm south of Coon Rapids in Guthrie Co, IA.. She married Norman "Gene" CROUCH on 18 Mar 1950 in Bayard, Iowa. She died 11 Oct 2005.

ix. Vera Genevieve HERRON was born on 28 Apr 1927 on the family farm south of Coon Rapids in Guthrie Co, IA. She married Thryl Gene HILGENBERG. She died on 07 Feb 2002 in St. Anthony
Hospital, Carroll, Carroll Co, Iowa.

x. Shirley Ann HERRON was born on 30 Dec 1929. She married Lyle Howard SEIVERS on 21 Jul 1949. She died on 07 Apr 1999.
