75 Years Ago Today - Eileen's Diary - November 4, 1939

75 Years Ago Today
Eileen's Diary
November 4, 1939

This entry is a post from the diary of my mother, twenty year old Eileen KINNICK SMITH, 75 Years Ago this date. She kept a diary from 1932 as a freshman in high school until she left us, too early, in 1999.

Here is the daily entry for Saturday, November 4:

Did usual work. Mom & Buss came. Had butter scotch pie, meat loaf. Scrubbed, waxed d. room in pm. At nite took Buss to show. Folks here for supper. Pete went to sleep. Cleaned up & tried to get Pete to come to bed with me.

My comments:

Dad was tuckered out from picking duties, it appeared. Good for him!

Butter Scotch Pie. That sounds good, as well! ;-)

Here is the daily entry for Friday, November 3:

Mom & Buss came out. Men picking on the 80. Had pork chops & apple pie for dinner. Washed after dinner. Scrubbed kitchen floor. Leo, Ida, Karen came for supper. Did dishes & then did stunts. They left early & we went to bed.

My comments:

Ok, What is with "did stunts"????

Also, since Grandma did not drive, how did "Mom & Buss came out" ? Did her Dad bring them??

Assume the pickers were there for the noon meal. Then, they had company for supper as well?

OK, enough with my questions… let's have some apple pie! ;-) That is my piece, thank you! ;-)

Dad still cutting those last weeds along the corn, where he couldn't get with the horse-drawn mower. Neat!  ;-)
