Ila Jean (Kinnick) Buhr - Obituary

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 15 for Ila Jean Buhr, 74, of Bayard, who died on Wednesday, May 12, 1993 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Reverend Crystal Oberheu officated the 10:30 a.m. services from the United Methodist Church in Bayard. Martha Wolf served as organist.

Interment was in Highland Township Cemetery, Bayard. Serving as casket bearers were Steve Sheer, Robert Kinnick, Craig Kinnick, Kelly Sheer, Allen Kinnick and Mark Kinnick.

Ila Jean, daughter of Robert and Edna Pierce Kinnick, was born October 14, 1918 at Coon Rapids. She attended schools in Coon Rapids, Bayard, and Stuart, eventually graduating from Glidden High School in 1936.

Ila Jean attended beauty school in Des Moines, receiving her diploma in 1941. She worked in Des Moines until her marriage on July 31, 1943 to Louis Joseph Buhr. They made their home in Bayard and in 1951, she opened her own beauty shop. Ila Jean retired in 1991 after 50 years as a beauty operator.

Ila Jean was a member of the United Methodist Church in Bayard and the Bagley Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed reading, quilting, and crocheting in her spare time. Her family was of the utmost importance to her.

Ila Jean died on Wednesday, May 12, 1993 at Iowa Methodist Medical center in Des Moines, at the age of 74 years, six months and 28 days.

Besides her husband, Louis, who died on September 14, 1966, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Burdette Kinnick.

Survivors include her children: Pamela and her husband, Jim Rumelhart, of Waukee; Michelle and her husband, Charles Davis, of Des Moines; Melinda and her husband, Dwight Holbrook, of Stuart; Teresa Buhr, of Des Moines; and Haydn Buhr and his wife, Lynette, of Pauls Valley, OK; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; her brother and sisters: Lyle Kinnick and his wife, Marie, of Bayard; Gretchen Vaughan, of Bayard; and Betty and her husband, Howard Sheer, of Bayard; a sister-in-law, Ruth Kinnick, of Guthrie Center; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
