75 Years Ago - Eileen's Diary - January 17, 1937

75 Years Ago - Eileen's Diary - January 17, 1937

This entry is the daily post on this blog from the diary of eighteen year old Eileen KINNICK, 75 Years Ago this date.

Since midway through 2010, a weekly update/comments blog entry began to appear on the Dr. Bill Tells Ancestor Stories blog. Those weekly entries, on that blog, on each Tuesday of the week, will continue, with links to these daily entries.

For 1937, the first entry available was for January 4. It was made in a multi-year diary format, so is short. Starting on January 5, there are two entries, one on the small format and a second is a full page entry. I suspect the longer entries were made later, when she got that book… there is no way to know, unless it shows up in the entries. This goes on for a couple of weeks. Let's see how it goes.

Here is the short entry for Sunday, January 17:

Slept late. Folks at Ger's. We kids at home. Cleaned stove. Listened to good programs Pete came at 8:00. "Sing Baby Sing." Glidden road. Mickey's school. Home at 11:45. Prettiest Moon.

[Note added later: arrow to Mickey - Mickey Parker (country school)]

Here is the long entry for Sunday, January 17:

Slept till 9:30. Late dinner at 2:30. Folks & Buzz went to Louises & Ger's & Leo & I stayed home. I did dishes & cleaned stove real well. Listened to Penner, Benny & "Wanna be an actor" & "We, the People." Pete came at 8:00 & we went to "Sing, Baby, Sing." Drove out on Glidden road afterwards just for fun. Home at 11:45.

My comments: "Sing Baby Sing" - Alice Faye and Adolphe Menjou movie.
Penner, here and here. "We, the People," radio program.

"Glidden road. Mickey's school." Eileen often gives a description of there they "drove" after the movie, or other nite activity - to have time alone together - remember??  ;-) "Prettiest Moon" about says it all!

Families are Forever!  ;-)
