75 Years Ago - Eileen's Diary - February 1, 1937
75 Years Ago - Eileen's Diary - February 1, 1937
This entry is the daily post on this blog from the diary of eighteen year old Eileen KINNICK, 75 Years Ago this date.
Since midway through 2010, a weekly update/comments blog entry began to appear on the Dr. Bill Tells Ancestor Stories blog. Those weekly entries, on that blog, on each Tuesday of the week, will continue, with links to these daily entries.
For 1937, the first entry available was for January 4. It was made in a multi-year diary format, so is short. Starting on January 5, there are two entries, one on the small format and a second is a full page entry. I suspect the longer entries were made later, when she got that book… there is no way to know, unless it shows up in the entries. This goes on for a couple of weeks. Let's see how it goes.
Here is the short entry for Monday, February 1:
[Fancy squiggle around Monday, February 1] 4th Anniv. Had time starting cars. Got McCall's & Red Bk. Got stuck in V-8 at Noon. I had a happy spell. Fibber & Molly & Lux - "Mr. Deeds goes to Town."
Here is the long entry for Monday, February 1: [bold]
[Fancy squiggle around Monday, February 1; also a side note: What then? 1-7-36] 4th Anniversary. Quite cold. Had time starting the cars. Played card in am. Got McCall's & Red Book. Wrote letters and read. Bussy & I went out home alone at Noon. Got stuck. Had to shovel. Leo came in after us at nite. Dad didn't come till later. Had Noodle supper. I had a happy spell. Listened to Fibber Magee & Molly & Lux Theater with Gary C. & Jean Arthur in "Mr. Deeds goes to town."
My comments: From Wikipedia on Mr. Deeds goes to town: "A radio adaptation of the film was originally broadcast on February 1, 1937 on Lux Radio Theater. In that broadcast, Gary Cooper, Jean Arthur and Lionel Stander reprised their roles from the 1936 film."
I'm curious what happened with: "I had a happy spell." Assume she got to laughing at something. Interesting phrase to use! ;-)
