75 Years Ago - Eileen's Diary - Aug 26, 1938
This entry is an irregular post on this blog from the diary of nineteen year old Eileen KINNICK, 75 Years Ago this date.
From March 1 thru April 29, I posted every day, to cover the marriage and the early married life of Pete and Eileen (Kinnick) Smith, but decided to 'take a breather.' Posts will be added, from time to time, as items of particular interest appear.
State Fair Time
Here is the daily entry for Friday, Aug 26:
Didn't get up very early. Getting ready to leave for the fair. Fried a chicken, made oatmeal cookies. Toots here awhile. They tried the tent. Got pin to town to eat with the folks. Left town at 1:00. No trouble on the way. Got to Des Moines at 2:30. Got some socks at Younkers & then went out to Fair Ground. Pete put up the tent. We ate supper at the tent. Went down to the grounds. Ran around until 11:00. Saw fireworks and came back to the tent.
My comments: Hard for me to imagine Mom and Dad in a tent… but they were young then, and seemed to really enjoy the experience.
I really wonder what their tent looked like!
